Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the IAU-EAIE Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue, held at The Sir Jim McDonald Technology and Innovation Centre at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, United Kingdom, on 8 September 2026. The participation came at the invitation of the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European Association for International Education (EAIE), with the aim of strengthening opportunities for international academic cooperation and exchanging strategic perspectives and expertise among higher education leaders from around the world. The dialogue addressed several strategic issues related to the internationalisation of higher education amid current global challenges. Discussions also covered the latest trends in international student mobility and recruitment, as well as internationalisation markets and recent global higher education data and statistics. The sessions further explored strategies for building equitable and sustainable academic partnerships, mechanisms for selecting international partners, developing joint academic programs, enhancing research collaboration, and promoting the principle of reciprocity among higher education institutions. The discussions also focused on reimagining internationalisation and integrating it into academic curricula, in addition to examining the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and academic mobility, as well as the importance of virtual exchange as a modern and sustainable approach to strengthening international cooperation. The program featured a keynote lecture entitled “Leading Internationalisation in Turbulent Times,” delivered by Sir Anton Muscatelli, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. The lecture addressed the VUCA Prime leadership model, which emphasizes vision, understanding, clarity, and agility in managing higher education institutions amid changing circumstances. On the sidelines of the event, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University held a meeting with Hilligje van’t Land, Secretary General of the International Association of Universities (IAU). The meeting discussed prospects for future academic and research partnerships, and she was presented with a commemorative gift reflecting Iraqi heritage and civilisation. Additional side meetings were also held with leaders of participating academic institutions to explore opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange. This participation reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to developing its strategic plans, keeping pace with global trends in higher education management, strengthening its international presence, and expanding its network of academic and research partnerships with universities and institutions worldwide.
