Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Al-Mustaqbal University organized an awareness-raising event to mark the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, aiming to promote environmental awareness and strengthen sustainability practices. The event was held in the university’s gardens in the presence of Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, along with a number of department and division directors, university staff, and students. The event was organized by the Sustainability Division at the University Presidency, highlighting the importance of maintaining air quality, raising awareness of the risks of air pollution and its impact on human health and the environment, as well as promoting sustainable behaviors and practices that contribute to creating a healthier and more sustainable university environment. In his speech during the event, Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi emphasized the importance of observing international days and utilizing them as opportunities to raise awareness of major global challenges, particularly climate change and related environmental issues. He noted that air pollution is one of the major environmental challenges associated with climate-related concerns, underscoring the need to strengthen environmental awareness and support scientific and community-based initiatives aimed at mitigating its impacts. Dr. Al-Zuhairi also highlighted Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to monitoring air pollution levels and gases emitted from various activities. He explained that the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Energy Research undertakes this responsibility through a specialized air quality monitoring station that provides scientific data on pollutant levels. These data constitute an information base that can support researchers and postgraduate students in conducting studies and research related to the environment, climate, and energy. For his part, Eng. Khalid Kadhim Al-Salihi, Head of the Sustainability Division, explained that Al-Mustaqbal University is implementing a range of initiatives and sustainable practices aimed at reducing air pollution and improving the university environment. These include expanding green spaces, promoting sustainable transportation, improving waste management and treatment methods, and implementing awareness programs targeting students and university staff to strengthen their sense of environmental responsibility. This event is part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture of environmental sustainability, enhance the university’s role in addressing environmental and climate challenges, and translate environmental awareness into practical initiatives and sustainable practices.
