Assistant Professor Dr. Abbas Fadel Rasn, a faculty member at the College of Administrative Sciences / Department of Banking and Financial Sciences, participated on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in the defense of a master’s thesis at the University of Karbala – College of Administration and Economics – Department of Banking and Financial Sciences. The thesis was entitled: “The Impact of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Standards on Enhancing Banking Reputation.” The research addressed a vital issue related to the challenges facing Iraqi society, particularly in light of environmental and climate pollution affecting water, air, and soil, as well as prevailing social and institutional risks. It also examined the extent to which the Iraqi banking sector can contribute to addressing these challenges and strengthening its role in achieving sustainable development. The study also focused on the importance of adopting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards in enhancing banking reputation, thereby contributing to establishing a distinguished position for banks within society through their effective contribution to addressing environmental and social issues and promoting sound institutional practices. The study reached a number of important conclusions and recommendations, emphasizing the need for the Iraqi banking sector to assume a leading role in sustainability and social responsibility, given the direct impact of these areas on individuals and society. This can be achieved through providing green banking services that contribute to environmental improvement and support sustainable development, most notably green loans. This participation reflects the active academic and research role of the faculty members of the College of Administrative Sciences in supporting scientific research and keeping pace with contemporary financial and banking issues.
