Toward Global Excellence: AL-Mustaqbal University Opens the Door to Collaboration with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to Launch Distinguished Graduate Programs

As part of its strategic vision to internationalize higher education and strengthen its presence within the global academic landscape, AL-Mustaqbal University continues to expand its network of international partnerships by establishing high-impact collaborations with leading research universities. In this context, the University held a high-level meeting with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA, a prestigious R1 research university, to explore the development of joint master's degree programs in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, addressing the evolving demands of the digital economy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The meeting was chaired by the President of AL-Mustaqbal University, Professor Hassan Shaker Majdy, while Professor Asim Eskandarian, Dean of the College of Engineering at VCU, represented the American university. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Iraqi Cultural Attaché in Washington, D.C., as well as the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reflecting the shared commitment to designing internationally recognized academic programs that comply with both global standards and national regulations. Representing AL-Mustaqbal University was a distinguished academic delegation that included Professor Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision; Professor Azhar Mohammed Abd, Dean of the College of Engineering and Technologies; together with directors of the International Relations Office, Cultural Scholarships Office, Scientific Affairs Department, and a number of faculty members and researchers. The VCU delegation included Professor Asim Eskandarian, the Director of Graduate Studies at the College of Engineering, and several senior academic officials. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Iraqi Cultural Attaché in Washington, Dr. Hussein Al-Sheikh and Dr. Alaa Al-Husseini, along with Ms. Zahraa Al-Naqash, representing the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The discussions featured a comprehensive presentation of the academic and research capabilities of VCU's College of Engineering, particularly in the fields of robotics, autonomous systems, and artificial intelligence. Recognized as one of the leading research institutions in the United States, VCU and AL-Mustaqbal University agreed on the general framework for launching joint master's degree programs based on internationally recognized curricula and implemented in accordance with global quality assurance and accreditation standards. Professor Hassan Shaker Majdy emphasized that this initiative forms part of AL-Mustaqbal University's strategic vision to elevate education and scientific research from the local level to a truly global academic environment through sustainable partnerships with internationally renowned universities. He noted that the University is committed to establishing advanced graduate programs in future-oriented disciplines, particularly Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, utilizing academic curricula and educational systems adopted by its international partner universities to prepare highly qualified graduates equipped with the knowledge and skills required to lead technological advancement. He further stressed that the University's vision extends beyond academic program development to the establishment of an integrated research collaboration ecosystem encompassing joint scientific projects in robotics, intelligent systems, and cybersecurity solutions, while promoting high-quality research publications in internationally indexed journals. The partnership will also expand academic exchange opportunities, research fellowships, and scholarly mobility programs for faculty members and researchers with international partner institutions. Both institutions will continue their technical and academic meetings to finalize the academic and administrative framework and prepare the executive agreements prior to obtaining the official approvals of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
