Al-Mustaqbal University revived, on Saturday 20 June 2026 in Babil Governorate, the flag-raising ceremony of Imam Hussein (PBUH), marking the beginning of the holy month of Muharram. The event was held under the patronage of the University President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, in cooperation with the Al-Husseini Holy Shrine, and witnessed broad official and academic attendance. The ceremony was attended by the University President, his assistants, college deans, a number of faculty members and staff, as well as representatives of the Academics Syndicate – Babil Branch, in a spiritual atmosphere that reflected the symbolic and profound meaning of the occasion. The University affirmed that reviving this annual event reflects its firm commitment to promoting the humanitarian values inspired by the immortal Hussaini renaissance, and its principles of sacrifice, reform, and standing for truth, thereby reinforcing ethical values and enhancing cultural awareness within the academic community. The ceremony concluded with prayers to Almighty Allah that this blessed month would be a time for strengthening brotherhood and compassion, and that Iraq may continue to enjoy security, stability, and peace.
