Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Education, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Rodhan Salman, and under the supervision of the Head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, Professor Dr. Thanaa Bahaa Al-Din Abdullah, the College of Education organized a health awareness and guidance workshop on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, observed annually on May 31, under the slogan “No Smoking… For a Better Life.” The workshop was held as part of the college’s efforts to promote health awareness and encourage a healthy lifestyle among students and university staff. The workshop was delivered by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Rodhan Salman, who highlighted the significance of this global occasion, which aims to shed light on the health, social, and economic risks associated with tobacco use and to encourage smokers to make the decision to quit for the benefit of their own health and that of the wider community. The workshop included a presentation of key global statistics on smoking, indicating that tobacco use causes the deaths of more than eight million people annually worldwide. It also addressed the serious health consequences of smoking, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory illnesses, weakened immunity, oral and dental health problems, as well as its negative effects on pregnancy and fertility. Furthermore, the workshop discussed the dangers of passive smoking and its harmful impact on non-smokers, particularly children, in addition to the economic and social burdens that smoking imposes on individuals, communities, and healthcare systems. The workshop also reviewed the health benefits of quitting smoking, which begin to appear within minutes and hours after cessation and continue to increase over time, leading to a reduced risk of heart disease and cancer and enabling the body to gradually restore its normal vital functions. In addition, a number of practical guidelines and recommendations were presented to assist individuals wishing to quit smoking. The workshop emphasized the importance of the role played by governmental and community institutions in reducing the prevalence of smoking through the implementation of supportive health policies and the promotion of smoke-free environments. At the conclusion of the workshop, the Dean stressed the importance of continuing awareness and educational activities that contribute to protecting the health of the university community. He emphasized that quitting smoking is a positive step toward a healthier and safer life, and that making this decision at any stage of life can bring significant benefits to both the individual and society. #College_of_Education #Al_Mustaqbal_University
