Electronic games have become an integral part of children's daily lives due to rapid technological advancements and the widespread availability of digital devices and internet access. As their popularity continues to grow, researchers and educators have become increasingly interested in understanding how these games influence children's development, particularly their social skills. Social skills refer to the abilities that enable individuals to interact effectively with others, including communication, cooperation, teamwork, empathy, conflict resolution, and respect for social norms. These skills are essential for building healthy relationships and achieving successful social integration. Electronic games can have positive effects on social skill development when used appropriately and in moderation. Multiplayer online games often require teamwork, communication, and collaboration among players to achieve common objectives. Such experiences can help children develop cooperation, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. Educational games may also encourage critical thinking, creativity, and decision-making skills. However, excessive gaming can negatively affect children's social development if it replaces face-to-face interactions with family members and peers. Spending long hours in virtual environments may reduce opportunities to practice real-world communication skills and participate in social activities, potentially leading to social isolation and reduced interpersonal competence. Additionally, exposure to inappropriate or highly violent games may influence children's behavior and attitudes toward others. Therefore, parental supervision and guidance are crucial in selecting age-appropriate games and establishing reasonable limits on screen time. Encouraging children to participate in sports, cultural activities, and community events can help maintain a healthy balance between digital entertainment and real-life social experiences. Such activities provide valuable opportunities to develop communication, cooperation, and emotional intelligence. In conclusion, electronic games are neither entirely beneficial nor entirely harmful. Their impact depends largely on the type of games played, the amount of time spent gaming, and the level of parental involvement. When used responsibly and in moderation, electronic games can contribute positively to social skill development; however, excessive use may hinder children's social growth and interpersonal interactions.
