Reaffirming its national leadership and ranking first among private universities in Iraq, and in a new international scientific achievement, the delegation of Al-Mustaqbal University received high-level international recognition from UNESCO and the European Union. The recognition was represented by awarding certificates of appreciation to Professor Dr. Salwan Obaid Wahid and the accompanying academic staff, in appreciation of their exceptional excellence and leading role in supporting the files of “green economy, digital transformation, and the sustainability of the Labour Market Information System Observatory.” This distinguished recognition came as the outcome of scientific presentations and active participation delivered by the university delegation over three consecutive days during the specialized workshop held in Erbil, within the framework of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Reform Project (TVET Reform – Phase 3). The sessions were marked by the specialized scientific presentation delivered by Professor Dr. Salwan Obaid Wahid (Director of the Energy Research Center and Rapporteur of the Sectoral Council for Green and Digital Economy), with active contributions from the distinguished delegation members: Dr. Anwar Qasim Saeed (Secretary of the Council) and Dr. Mohammed Mitham Obaid (Council Member). During the workshop, Dr. Salwan Obaid and the university team presented the outputs of the strategic report for empowering sustainable development in Babil Governorate issued by the Sectoral Council. They also highlighted research models for innovative projects integrated with artificial intelligence technologies and the promotion of environmental solutions supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reflecting the university’s active participation in the activities of the “Fourth Sustainability Week.” The workshop witnessed a significant and wide attendance of representatives from UNESCO Iraq Office, led by Dr. Alexandros Makriyakis (Director of the Office and UNESCO Representative in Iraq), as well as the Director of the European Union Office in the Kurdistan Region. They expressed strong admiration for the scientific contributions and sustainable projects presented by the delegation and personally insisted on presenting the recognition as an acknowledgment of the efforts of Al-Mustaqbal University’s staff, being the only academic institution officially invited and honored in this international workshop. On the sidelines of this major achievement, a UNESCO official announced coordination for an upcoming official visit to the headquarters of Al-Mustaqbal University in Babil Governorate to discuss prospects for joint cooperation and expand strategic collaboration with the university in the fields of sustainability and linking education to the labor market.
