Al-Mustaqbal University Brings Babylon’s Leaders Together to Shape a Green and Sustainable Future

In a step that reflects the pioneering role of Al-Mustaqbal University in supporting sustainable development and strengthening partnerships with governmental institutions, the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, welcomed a high-level delegation of executive and legislative leaders from Babylon Governorate to discuss prospects for joint cooperation in the fields of sustainable development and green communities. The delegation included the Governor of Babylon, Mr. Ali Turki Al-Jamali, the Chairman of the Babylon Provincial Council, Mr. Asaad Al-Musallamawi, Iraqi Member of Parliament Riyadh Adday, along with several members of the Provincial Council, the Deputy Governor of Babylon, Mr. Alaa Al-Araji, as well as directors of service and environmental departments in the governorate, including the Director of Babylon Municipality, the Director of Babylon Sewage Directorate, the Director of Babylon Environment Directorate, and a number of heads of governmental departments. This visit came within the framework of the university’s vision to strengthen its academic and societal role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through establishing effective strategic partnerships with state institutions. The event was hosted at the “Sustainable Arab Future House” and the “Sustainable Development Laboratory (SDG-LAB),” which serve as dynamic platforms for innovation and the development of sustainable initiatives. The meeting witnessed extensive discussions on developing green communities and transforming Babylon Governorate into a more sustainable and environmentally friendly city through adopting modern solutions in the sectors of energy, water, and transportation, in addition to expanding green spaces and promoting environmental awareness among the community. The participants also discussed the importance of unifying efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 11, which focuses on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, through innovative tools and joint developmental initiatives that serve the governorate’s present and future needs. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the university and the local government through launching joint research projects, training programs, exchange of expertise, and organizing awareness activities that contribute to promoting environmental and developmental awareness and achieving comprehensive development. The University President expressed his appreciation for the visit, affirming Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to dedicating all its scientific and research capabilities to supporting local development plans. In turn, the Governor of Babylon praised the university’s outstanding efforts in the field of sustainability, affirming the governorate’s full support for joint initiatives and projects.
