The Medical Physics Department at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, held a scientific workshop titled The Biological Effects of Ionizing Radiation on April 5, 2026, with the participation of faculty members and students, as part of the department’s academic activities aimed at strengthening scientific awareness of important medical and physical topics with practical relevance.
The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Hamza Abbas Jawad, Assistant Lecturer Ali Jaafar Ubaid, Noor Firas, and Noor Eisa. It addressed the biological effects resulting from exposure to ionizing radiation and their impact on living cells and tissues, in addition to explaining the importance of the safe use of radiation in medical applications and the need to follow approved protective measures to reduce its risks.
The session included a scientific discussion focused on the main effects of ionizing radiation on the human body, with clarification of the differences in biological response according to dose type and duration of exposure. It also highlighted the importance of scientific awareness in preparing students who are capable of understanding radiation risks and dealing with them according to accurate professional standards.
This workshop came within the efforts of the Medical Physics Department at Al-Mustaqbal University to support scientific and awareness activities and to provide an active academic environment that contributes to developing students’ knowledge and connecting theoretical study with practical application, in a way that enhances the quality of university education and reinforces a culture of professional safety in medical specialties.
