The Department of Medical Physics at the College of Sciences, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a scientific dialogue session titled “Employee Rights and Duties in Iraqi Law,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Fatima Makki Shaalan, Assistant Lecturer Al-Shaimaa Firas Mohammed رضا, and Assistant Lecturer Israa Hussein Amweishi, as part of the department’s academic and awareness activities aimed at strengthening legal and administrative knowledge within the university environment. The session addressed the main legal principles governing the relationship between the employee and the institution under Iraqi law. It provided a structured overview of employee rights and corresponding professional duties, highlighting the importance of balancing both aspects in order to build a work environment based on commitment, fairness, and clarity in institutional responsibilities. The speakers discussed several core themes, including the employee’s financial and moral rights, such as salaries, leave, and promotions, in addition to job duties, legal prohibitions, disciplinary procedures, and the guarantees available to employees in cases of administrative accountability. The session also explained the mechanisms of grievance and appeal against administrative decisions in accordance with the applicable legal framework. The presenters emphasized that awareness of employee rights cannot be separated from awareness of employee duties, as achieving this balance contributes to strengthening job discipline, reducing administrative errors, and promoting transparency and justice in the workplace. They noted that such legal understanding positively reflects on institutional performance and the quality of professional achievement. The session further stressed the importance of spreading legal culture among employees in educational and administrative institutions, as it helps protect staff from violations while enabling them to perform their duties with greater awareness, responsibility, and understanding of the laws and regulations in force. This activity was aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, through supporting a more informed institutional work environment, promoting awareness of professional rights and obligations, and contributing to the development of competent cadres capable of improving workplace stability and professional performance. Through such activities, the Department of Medical Physics continues to connect academic knowledge with practical institutional needs, while reinforcing a culture of law, responsibility, and professional commitment within the educational community.
