In conjunction with Sustainability Week activities, AL-Mustaqbal University has demonstrated a distinguished scientific presence through the publication of a rigorous research study highlighting the development of an innovative approach to reducing complications associated with hemodialysis. This achievement reflects the University’s commitment to advancing scientific research and serving the healthcare sector. This accomplishment was achieved through the contribution of Prof. Dr. Fadhil Jawad Al-Tu’ma, a faculty member in the Department of Medical Laboratories at the College of Health and Medical Technologies, AL-Mustaqbal University. He participated as part of a specialized nephrology research team from the Iraqi Center for Hemodialysis at Baghdad Teaching Hospital / Medical City, in collaboration with the College of Medicine at the University of Karbala. The study was published in the European Journal of Pharmaceutical and Medical Research, Issue 13(4), 2026, a reputable international journal with a notable impact factor. The research focused on developing a novel method to enhance the efficiency of hemodialysis sessions by utilizing a body composition analyzer to accurately determine the optimal volume of fluid to be removed from patients suffering from advanced chronic kidney failure. The study findings demonstrated that adopting this technique significantly reduces common complications associated with hemodialysis, such as muscle cramps and hypotension. Additionally, it contributes to better post-dialysis blood pressure stability and reduces fluid retention in patients. Moreover, the research highlighted that the use of body composition analysis provides a more precise estimation of patients’ dry weight, which positively impacts treatment outcomes by reducing reliance on medications, particularly antihypertensive drugs. This, in turn, improves patients’ quality of life and alleviates the overall treatment burden. This achievement aligns with AL-Mustaqbal University’s strategic direction toward supporting medical innovation and applied scientific research, contributing to the realization of sustainable development goals and the enhancement of healthcare services in Iraq.
