The College of Science / Department of Biochemistry, represented by Asst. Lecturer Hnadi Tahseen Muslim, held a scientific workshop titled: "The Iraqi Woman and Her Political Voice: Growing Presence and Ongoing Challenges", on Tuesday, 22/4/2026, as part of the academic activities aimed at enhancing awareness of the role of women in society and decision-making processes. The workshop focused on highlighting the growing role of Iraqi women in the political landscape, where their presence is no longer limited to symbolic participation, but has become an active contribution in decision-making and addressing national and developmental issues. It also addressed the development of women’s participation in Iraq after the political changes, including their involvement in parliament, state institutions, and civil society organizations, as well as their contribution to community initiatives that support stability and development. Furthermore, the workshop explained that the women’s quota system has significantly increased female representation in legislative bodies, providing wider opportunities for women to deliver their voices and defend societal rights, particularly in education, health, human rights, and empowering marginalized groups. On the other hand, the workshop highlighted ongoing challenges facing Iraqi women, including social pressures, cultural restrictions, and certain obstacles within the political environment. Nevertheless, women have demonstrated their ability to persist and actively participate across various fields. The workshop concluded that women’s political empowerment is not limited to increasing their numbers in positions, but requires real support for their capabilities, strengthening their confidence, and providing a safe and supportive environment that enables free expression and participation, contributing to a more just and balanced society.
