Tayba Ahmed Wahab Since the beginning of human existence on Earth, there has been a need for a system to regulate life and define rights and duties. From this need, the concept of law emerged. When examining ancient remains, we find clear evidence that early civilizations possessed relatively advanced legal systems that helped them build stable and organized societies. In ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, written laws were established and are considered among the oldest known in history. Their purpose was to achieve justice among people and regulate daily life. These laws were characterized by their clarity and specificity, including various punishments depending on the type of crime, which reflects a developed legal awareness among early humans. In ancient Egypt, law was not merely a set of written rules but was closely linked to moral and religious values. The Egyptians believed in the principles of justice and order, and the ruler was responsible for implementing these principles in society. This indicates that law at that time was not only a means of punishment but also a method for maintaining balance and stability. Archaeological evidence, such as inscriptions and ancient documents, shows that laws covered various aspects of life, including marriage, commercial transactions, and inheritance. This demonstrates that early humans sought to build a comprehensive society based on order and justice. These findings also point to the existence of courts and judges, indicating that judicial systems have existed since ancient times. Studying law in ancient civilizations helps us understand the roots of modern legal systems and highlights the development of human thought over time. It shows that humans did not live randomly but continuously sought to establish rules that organize life and ensure security and stability. In conclusion, law was a fundamental element in the lives of ancient peoples and played a significant role in the development of civilizations.
