In a warm and intellectually engaging atmosphere, AL-Mustaqbal University welcomed its first international delegation this morning to participate in the third edition of the International AL-Mustaqbal Sustainability Week Festival, which will officially begin tomorrow, Wednesday, April 16, 2025, and continue through April 24. The university president, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, received the delegation from Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University in Turkey. The delegation included the university’s president, Prof. Dr. Kenan Ahmet, his assistant Prof. Dr. Mehmet KILIC, the Head of the Department of Energy Management and Sustainability, Ms. Leyla AKBULUT, and Prof. Dr. Atilgan. The reception was also attended by several academic and administrative leaders from the university. The visit began with a campus tour that covered lecture halls, specialized laboratories, and student service facilities. The delegation was introduced to the university’s advanced infrastructure and stimulating learning environment designed to support both students and faculty, in alignment with modern trends in higher education. During the visit, a joint discussion session was held, during which Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi expressed the university’s desire to activate the Memorandum of Understanding previously signed with Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University and to expand cooperation across various fields—especially in sustainability, scientific research, and academic exchange. In addition, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the university’s academic structure, highlighting its most notable achievements, pioneering programs aimed at advancing sustainable development goals, and proposals for deepening collaboration between the two universities. For his part, the President of Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University praised the academic and administrative excellence he witnessed at AL-Mustaqbal University. He expressed great admiration for the institution’s capabilities and modern infrastructure, which position it among the most promising universities globally. Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the supervision of the President of AL-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, the third edition of the International AL-Mustaqbal Sustainability Week 2025 was officially launched this morning at Future University. The opening ceremony was held in the presence of a large number of distinguished local and international academic and official figures. The first day of the festival featured the inauguration of the First International Conference on Modern Technologies and Their Applications in Sustainable Education, in addition to the opening of several scientific exhibitions. These exhibitions showcased promising initiatives by students, researchers, faculty members, and academic departments, all aimed at supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event was attended by several prominent guests, including the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, President of the University of Babylon, Prof. Dr. Ameen Al-Yasiri; the Governor of Babylon, Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi; the Head of Babylon Provincial Council, Mr. Asaad Al-Muslawi; and the President of Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Kenan Ahmet. The audience also included university presidents, deans, government officials, faculty members, and researchers. In his speech, Babylon Governor Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi praised the achievements of AL-Mustaqbal University and its innovative community-driven initiatives that contribute to quality education. Prof. Dr. Ameen Al-Yasiri conveyed the Minister’s greetings and best wishes to the university leadership and community, wishing continued success for both the festival and the conference. Representing the university president, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, delivered the conference’s opening address. He highlighted the significance of this year’s edition, which coincides with the 15th anniversary of the founding of Al-Mustaqbal College and the first anniversary of its transformation into AL-Mustaqbal University. He reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to turning its slogan, “Towards a Sustainable University,” into a tangible reality. Dr. Al-Zuhairi emphasized the vital role of artificial intelligence in the digital transformation across various sectors, especially education. He noted that the university established its AI Center last year, a move that strengthened its standing among leading academic institutions in this field. He also pointed out the university’s commitment to integrating sustainability concepts into curricula and supporting research aligned with the SDGs—particularly since over 65% of its research output is now linked to sustainability topics. The opening session also included two panel discussions. The first focused on global experiences in sustainable education and featured the delegation from Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, moderated by Prof. Dr. Tareq Jawad, Director of the Department of Scientific Affairs. The second session explored the role of universities in achieving SDG 4: Quality Education, and included contributions from Prof. Dr. Faten Al-Qazzaz, Scientific Assistant to the President of Al-Mustansiriya University; Ms. Nahida Ahmed Abduljabbar, Human Development Expert; and directors of the Education Policy Department at the Ministry of Planning. The session was moderated by Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, who also presented success stories and initiatives led by Future University in support of SDG 4. The festival’s opening ceremony featured a touching performance of the national anthem in sign language, presented by the Iraqi Association for Disability and Development (IADD), symbolizing the university’s strong commitment to inclusion and diversity.

The guests toured the university’s nature reserve, which is home to a variety of animals and purebred horses, reflecting the university’s commitment to SDG 15: Life on Land through efforts to protect biodiversity and support terrestrial ecosystems. This distinguished gathering also reinforced SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as the university continues to build strategic national and international alliances to advance sustainability and shared development goals.

The show featured traditional Iraqi attire spanning various historical periods—from ancient civilizations to the modern era—showcasing the country’s deep cultural heritage and artistic legacy. The fashion show was held on the sidelines of the festival’s opening ceremony, which is organized under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the direct supervision of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Future University. The festival runs from April 16 to 24 and has drawn a wide audience from across Iraq and beyond, including officials, academics, and cultural figures. As part of AL-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing efforts to expand academic and research collaboration with reputable international institutions, and under the guidance of University President Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Sustainability and Energy Management at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University in Turkey. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability. The MoU was signed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd, Dean of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies at AL-Mustaqbal University, and Ms. Leyla Akbulut, Head of the Department of Sustainability and Energy Management at the Turkish university. This strategic partnership is designed to support the development of educational and research initiatives that address pressing global challenges related to sustainable energy. The delegation also attended part of the Future Forum for Civil Society Organizations and the Private Sector, held as part of the 3rd International AL-Mustaqbal Sustainability Week 2025, where they were introduced to a range of initiatives and projects fostering synergy between academia, society, and the economy. The visit concluded with a field tour of AL-Mustaqbal University’s medical colleges, including the Colleges of Pharmacy and Nursing, where the delegation observed the modern infrastructure, state-of-the-art laboratories, and immersive practical learning environments that the university offers its students. The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting mutual scientific and cultural cooperation. This initiative aligns with the vision of AL-Mustaqbal University, led by Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, to globalize the Iraqi academic experience. It also reflects the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s strategic direction to establish impactful partnerships that enhance the global standing of Iraqi universities. As part of its continuous efforts toward global engagement, AL-Mustaqbal University took part in the 10th Annual Eurasia Higher Education Summit (EURIE 2025), held in Istanbul from April 8 to 10, 2025. The university was represented by a high-level delegation led by Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, University President, along with Professor Dr. Abbas Al-Bawi, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Samir Ibrahim, Director of International Relations. The summit officially opened at Istanbul’s main conference hall, with wide participation from both governmental and academic sectors. The opening remarks were delivered by the Turkish Minister of Higher Education and the Minister of Economy, alongside prominent international figures, including representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and Uzbekistan. Distinguished attendees also included the Executive Director of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, the Director of the British Council, and presidents and representatives of academic institutions from around the world. AL-Mustaqbal University’s booth, featured as part of the academic exhibition held alongside the summit, attracted significant interest and engagement from academic delegations and visitors—particularly from Malaysian, Romanian, and Turkish universities. The exhibition was honored by official visits from the Turkish Minister of Economy, the Malaysian Minister of Education, and Professor Mustafa Aydin, President of Istanbul Aydın University, all of whom commended the university’s efforts in enhancing its academic programs and expanding its global presence.
