Al-Mustaqbal University Organizes a Seminar on Gender Discrimination in Society and the Labor Market The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering at Al-Mustaqbal University, under the supervision of the Women’s Affairs Division and in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs representatives from the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Industries Engineering, conducted an awareness wokshop titled: “Gender Discrimination in Society and the Labor Market.” This workshop was held in compliance with the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security – Protection and Prevention Pillar (2025), specifically Paragraph Five, which addresses negative phenomena that may affect women. The workshop included the following key topics: • Understanding the concept of gender discrimination and its various forms in society and the labor market. • The impact of discrimination on women from social, economic, and professional perspectives. • National and international laws and policies related to women’s rights and equal opportunities. • Strategies to promote gender equality within the workplace and the university environment. • The importance of awareness and creating a supportive environment that ensures equal opportunities for all individuals. Participants expressed their positive engagement with the initiative, emphasizing the importance of continuing such activities that contribute to promoting women’s rights and fostering a fair and equitable environment. Under the patronage of the respected President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the College of Health and Medical Technologies, held an awareness workshop titled: “Enhancing Awareness on the Dangers of Irrational Use of Antibiotics and Its Increasing Impact on Public Health.” This activity comes within the framework of implementing the Third National Action Plan for Women, Peace, and Security – Protection and Prevention Pillar / Clause Three, and in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being). It was also held as part of the Global Antibiotic Awareness Week activities for the period 14–28 November. The workshop program included a comprehensive scientific session that addressed: • An introduction to the concept of antibiotics and their types. • The importance of adhering to the proper use of antibiotics in accordance with medical guidelines. • The role of individuals, educational institutions, and health institutions in raising awareness among students and the community about the risks of the random use of these medications. The lecturer also emphasized the severity of antibiotic resistance, describing it as one of the greatest health challenges of the 21st century. The activity concluded with recommendations stressing the need to promote a culture of rational antibiotic use in support of national and global efforts to confront this growing health threat. Women’s Affairs in Confronting Violence: An Awareness Seminar for Students of the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering In implementation of the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security / Protection and Prevention Pillar, specifically paragraph five concerning negative phenomena that women may be exposed to such as (domestic violence, harassment, electronic blackmail, and drugs), and how to enhance confronting these phenomena according to the law, the Women’s Affairs Unit in the College of Engineering, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division and the Women’s Affairs Committee in the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering, organized an awareness seminar entitled: “Violence Against Women: Causes, Effects, and Ways of Confrontation.” The seminar addressed the most prominent forms of violence that women face in society, explaining the social and psychological causes of these phenomena, as well as the negative effects they leave on the family and society. It also reviewed the legal and educational means to confront them. The seminar witnessed the attendance of a number of students who actively participated by asking questions and making interventions, which contributed to enhancing community awareness about the importance of respecting women’s rights and promoting a safe and inclusive educational and professional environment. This activity comes as part of the department’s efforts to develop students’ critical understanding of social issues and empower them to contribute to building a society based on respect and equality. Under the patronage of the esteemed President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, organized a workshop titled “The Role of Women in Sustainable Development,” presented by Dr. Mahmoud Dawood Al-Rubaie and Asst. Lecturer Di Salem Hamza, on 24/11/2025. The workshop addressed the importance of empowering women in various sectors and their active role in achieving the goals of sustainable development, in addition to highlighting successful examples of women in society and supporting their participation in academic and professional fields. The workshop also witnessed remarkable attendance from professors and students, who praised the valuable information and purposeful discussions presented by the lecturer. This workshop comes as part of the series of activities organized by the Women’s Affairs Division to enhance awareness, promote a culture of equality, and empower women within the university community.

On the occasion of the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, held from 14–28 November, Al-Mustaqbal University — the first university in Iraq — through its College of Health and Medical Technologies / Medical Laboratory Department / Women Empowerment Committee, organized a scientific awareness seminar aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of the irrational use of antibiotics and its increasing impact on public health. The seminar included a detailed explanation of the concept of antibiotics, their types, and the importance of adhering to their proper use according to medical guidelines. It also highlighted the role of individuals and educational and health institutions in spreading awareness among students and the community to reduce the overuse of these drugs, which represents an escalating risk manifested in the spread of antimicrobial resistance — one of the most serious health threats of the 21st century. The event concluded by emphasizing the need to strengthen the culture of rational antibiotic use in support of national and global efforts to confront this growing health challenge. In line with the executive strategic plan for Iraqi women, and particularly in implementation of the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security / the pillar of participation and institutional reform, the fifth axis regarding providing a suitable work environment that achieves gender justice standards, the Women’s Affairs Unit at Al-Mustaqbal University, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs representatives in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries, and under the follow-up of the Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, Prof. Sahira Qahtan Abdul Jabbar, organized a workshop entitled: “Women and the Work Environment: Ensuring Rights and Preventing Discrimination.” On 18/11/2025. The workshop aimed to enhance the awareness of students and faculty members about the principles of professional justice, and to clarify the importance of preparing a safe and fair work environment for women, by highlighting national legislation, protection policies, and mechanisms for reducing discriminatory practices in academic and professional institutions. The workshop included the discussion of key topics, such as: • Women’s rights in different work environments, • Strategies for reducing occupational discrimination, • The most prominent challenges faced by working women, • Presenting models of successful work environments based on a culture of fairness and mutual respect. The workshop was organized and implemented by: • Assistant Lecturer Abrar Falah Naji • Assistant Lecturer Rusul Ahmed Hashim • Programmer Fatima Waleed Khalid The workshop concluded by opening the door for dialogue for students to present their opinions and suggestions regarding enhancing the role of women in academic and professional institutions, with an emphasis on the importance of spreading legal awareness and establishing a culture of equality within the university community, in line with the national directions for women’s affairs.
Under the Patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University The Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the College of Fine Arts, organized an educational dialogue workshop entitled: “The Impact of Information Technology on Women” The workshop addressed a broad and diverse topic, highlighting both the positive and negative effects of information technology on women’s lives across various fields. Positive Aspects: 1. Improved Access to Education and Training: Providing opportunities for online learning and the development of academic and technical skills. 2. Economic Empowerment: Enabling women to work remotely and engage in freelance digital work, thus strengthening their economic independence. 3. Social Communication and Community Participation: Empowering women to express their views and participate in public debates and social causes through digital platforms. 4. Increased Career Opportunities: Opening new career paths for women in areas such as programming, digital design, and data science, helping reduce the gender gap in these fields. 5. Improved Health and Self-Care: Utilizing health applications and online medical consultations to raise awareness and improve women’s overall well-being. 6. Enhanced Cross-Cultural Communication: Building bridges for cultural and professional exchange among women worldwide, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation on global issues such as women’s rights. Negative Aspects: Despite the many benefits, the workshop also highlighted some of the challenges women face in the digital era, including: • Online Harassment: Women are more vulnerable to cyber harassment and security threats, affecting their personal safety. • The Digital Divide: Limited access to technology in some regions restricts women’s learning and professional development opportunities. • Professional Challenges: Women in the technology sector may face barriers in proving themselves or accessing equal opportunities due to social and cultural biases. In conclusion, the workshop emphasized that while information technology has become a vital tool in empowering women and expanding their horizons, it also requires addressing the challenges and risks that accompany it.
Under the Patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University The Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the College of Fine Arts, organized an educational dialogue seminar entitled: “The Role of Women in Combating Extremism” on September 20, 2025, within the framework of Pillar Seven: Protection and Prevention. The seminar was held under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sahira Qahtan Abdul-Jabbar, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, with the participation of: • Dr. Suhaila Kazem Al-Ifari, Head of the Empowerment Committee in the College, • Mr. Karrar Haider Sahar, Representative of the Bar Association, • Mr. Hazem Jawad Kazem, Certified International Trainer in Combating Extremism at the Babylon Governorate Office. The event was attended by a number of faculty members and staff of the university, and witnessed significant interaction and fruitful discussions. The seminar emphasized the importance of promoting meaningful dialogue to counter hate speech with moderate discourse, spreading the spirit of tolerance, and instilling positive values in younger generations. As women represent half of society and shape the other half, they are uniquely positioned to foster a culture of dialogue, acceptance of others, and to establish women’s associations that include media figures, social activists, and conscious wives who can raise their voices against extremism and social violence. Women were highlighted as the first line of defense, a source of balance, and key partners in peacebuilding and combating extremism. The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including: • Providing awareness and training programs to strengthen women’s capacity in this field, • Supporting media that highlights women’s role in peacebuilding, • Integrating women into national strategies for combating terrorism and extremism.
