Al-Mustaqbal University has further strengthened its academic standing at both the national and international levels by securing the top position among Iraqi universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026. The university was placed within the 201–300 global band out of 1,603 universities evaluated worldwide this year.
This achievement reaffirms the university’s leading role in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Al-Mustaqbal University ranked first among all 43 participating public and private Iraqi universities, reflecting the effectiveness of its academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement in promoting sustainable development.
The university also achieved outstanding results across several SDGs, ranking first in Iraq in SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). In addition, it secured second place nationally in SDG 4 (Quality Education), highlighting the quality of its educational programs and its commitment to developing a sustainable learning and research environment.
This accomplishment represents another milestone in the university’s continued success, as it has maintained its position as Iraq’s top-ranked university in the THE Impact Rankings for the second consecutive year, while remaining the leading private university in Iraq for the fourth consecutive year. These results reflect the university’s long-term strategic vision, institutional excellence, and sustained commitment to quality and sustainability.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings assess universities based on their contributions to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through indicators including teaching quality, research, knowledge transfer, community engagement, governance, environmental sustainability, partnerships, and their overall contribution to addressing global economic, social, and environmental challenges.
Commenting on the achievement, Professor Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, expressed his pride in the university’s outstanding performance, emphasizing that the results are the outcome of a clear strategic vision and a strong institutional commitment to sustainability and excellence.
He added that the achievement reflects the collective efforts of the university’s faculty members, researchers, staff, and students, reaffirming the university’s determination to further enhance its global reputation while continuing to contribute to sustainable development and the advancement of society.
