The Sustainable Development Department organized a volunteer awareness campaign about the role of sustainable agriculture in environmental preservation and biodiversity, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. The campaign included distributing various brochures to university students, some of which highlighted Al-Mustaqbal University s role in supporting sustainable agriculture in the university s natural reserve, as well as the types of agricultural crops, fruit-bearing trees, and shade trees with strains that withstand climatic conditions, emphasizing their importance in expanding plant cover to preserve the elements of life quality amidst climate challenges. Other brochures covered the biodiversity within the reserve, including rare animals and birds preserved in the reserve by providing a suitable environment for their livelihoods.
This initiative was part of the events organized by Al-Mustaqbal University to celebrate World Earth Day, which falls on April 22nd of each year. The volunteer campaign also included explaining the concepts of sustainable development goals to university students and the role of Al-Mustaqbal University in supporting all efforts to achieve these goals, as reflected in its slogan ("Al-Mustaqbal University... Towards a Sustainable University"). Mr. Khaled Kazem Al-Salehi, the Director of the Sustainable Development Department at the university, pointed out that these initiatives come within the directives and support of the university s President, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, to celebrate international and national occasions that focus on achieving sustainable development goals and preserving a healthy, flourishing planet free from pollution by encouraging community participation and striving to achieve harmony between the availability of natural resources (renewable and non-renewable) and the requirements of sustainable development.
