Freedom of expression is the bridge between the self and the world, as in its Kantian essence, it is not just a political right, but an embodiment of the dignity of the human being as a rational being and an end in itself. In this sense, international conventions, in particular Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), have established the foundations of this right as a necessary condition for the production and circulation of truth, while regulating it with legal boundaries that balance between the individual's launch and the protection of public order and the rights of others. However, the media landscape has undergone a structural transformation with the emergence of "citizen journalism" through social media platforms, which has taken publishing out of its classic institutional frameworks to a digital space characterized by absolute openness. This transformation has not only changed the means of expression, but has also reformulated the principles established in the nineteenth century, giving freedom of opinion a digital dimension that requires a review of traditional legal rules, which was reflected in the modern judiciary's recognition of electronic publishing as a full-fledged media medium. However, in the digital age, this right faces an existential challenge of "algorithmic power." Censorship is no longer confined to the direct tools of the state, but has passed into the hands of large corporations that run search engines and content platforms. These algorithms are not neutral tools, but rather digital "actors" with a quasi-sovereign ability to guide public opinion, shape political debates, and control what appears or disappears to the user, in what looks like "invisible censorship." This reality has shaken the principle of freedom of expression within a "closed algorithmic environment", where individuals are locked in thought bubbles that reinforce their biases and kill pluralism. The major legal dilemma arises: how can freedom of expression be protected in the context of a legal article designed to restrict state power, when the real actor today is an algorithm with supra-legal power that transcends national borders? artificial intelligence" that may turn freedom of opinion into an illusion subject to systematic disinformation. The transition from the traditional framework of freedom to the new digital reality calls for a redefinition of the "public sphere" to ensure that technology does not transform from an enabling tool to a means of dominating the human mind, threatening the fundamental pillar of any democratic system: intellectual diversity.International conventions are designed to restrict the power of the state and protect the individual, while the real actor today is transcontinental technology companies with supra-legal power that transcends national boundaries and imposes censorship based on biases embedded in the data. We are facing an inevitable conflict between the legacy of "traditional freedom" and the "age of artificial intelligence" that may transform freedom of opinion into an illusion subject to systematic disinformation, necessitating a redefinition of the "public sphere" to ensure that technology does not transform from A tool of empowerment to a means of dominating the human mind and undermining the pillars of democracy.
