Eliminating all forms of discrimination against women and girls is not only a fundamental human right, but also a critical factor in accelerating sustainable development. It has been proven time and time again that empowering women and girls has a multiplier effect, helping to drive economic growth and development in all areas. That's why, since 2000, we've made gender equality at the center of our work at UNDP—together with our partners at the United Nations and the rest of the global community—and we've seen remarkable progress since then. There are more girls in school today than 15 years ago, and most regions of the world have achieved gender parity in primary education. Today, women constitute 41 percent of wage-earning workers outside agriculture, compared to 35 percent in 1990.
