The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the United Kingdom organized the “First Iraqi Medical Congress,” the largest Iraqi medical gathering to be held outside the country. The event took place over two days, Saturday and Sunday, June 14–15, 2025, at the Novotel London West Hotel in the British capital, London.
Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majid led a high-level delegation from Al-Mustaqbal University to participate in and attend the congress. The delegation included the Director of the Department of Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Walaa Luay Al-Falluji, Dean of the College of Medicine, Assistant Professor Azhar Mohsen Abd, Dean of the College of Engineering, and Assistant Professor Ahmed Al-Thalmi, Dean of the College of Pharmacy.
The congress witnessed a wide turnout of prominent Iraqi doctors, scientists, and academics residing in the United Kingdom, alongside participants from within Iraq representing the Ministries of Health and Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as government officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and leading medical professionals in Britain.
This distinguished conference aimed to strengthen cooperation between Iraqi medical professionals at home and abroad, provide a platform for the exchange of medical and scientific expertise, open avenues for partnerships in research, development, and medical education, and support efforts to advance Iraq’s healthcare system while encouraging the return of Iraqi minds to contribute to national development.
More than 500 medical and academic figures participated in the congress from the United Kingdom, Iraq, and various diaspora communities. Among them were heads of medical departments in British hospitals, professors from prestigious universities, and representatives of Iraqi universities—reflecting the high level of scientific and professional participation and underscoring the event’s importance as a premier platform for knowledge exchange.
It is worth noting that the “First Iraqi Medical Congress in the United Kingdom” represents a pioneering step toward establishing a culture of scientific collaboration between Iraq and its diaspora, showcasing the bright face of Iraq and its talented professionals in support of national goals for sustainable healthcare development and progress.
