Assist. Prof. Dr. Azher M. Abid, Head of Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineering Department at Al-Mustaqbal University College has participated in the “THE MENA Universities Summit” hosted by the American University of the Middle East (AUM) in Kuwait for the period 28th – 30th November, 2022. It is remarkable to note that Dr. Azher’s participation has been in a session entitled

“How the Higher Education Sector can work towards the SDGs”

The American University of the Middle East in Kuwait has hosted the most distinguished Academic Leaders representing International Universities & Educational Institutions for the purpose of being involved in many dialogue sessions and workshops within the Education Development Summit that shall undoubtedly lead to a comprehensive program, reflecting the Evolutionary Vision of the Higher Education Sector in the Region.
It should be noted that divergent programs have been raised during the summit, and they all focus on a Sustainable Perspective of Higher Education. However, and in a speech given by Dr. Fahd Al-Othman, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American University of the Middle East at the Opening Ceremony of the Summit, he confirmed that the management style of Educational Institutions shall be changed so that providing as well as re-engineering knowledge becomes a central issue in the educational process. He argued that the problem is not related to the institution itself, but to the mentality used in the curriculum, that we should promote in order to be able to adapt to any change that might occur.
The summit has included lots of dialogue sessions and exchange of experiences between University Presidents and other Academic Leaders, in addition to Workshops on International Rankings (Master Classes). Moreover, there have been Social Activities for the Participants, where a number of topics have been raised and discussed during the Summit, the most important of which are
• Essential Challenges & Opportunities Confronting Universities in the Middle East
• Ways of cooperation between Universities & Institutions that should lead to promoting skills, progress and development in the Region, and thus securing Human Resources that are highly required for Labor Market.
• Achieving a balance in the priorities of Universities, starting with striving for excellence in the field of Scientific Research and ending with the graduation of creative generations qualified for employment.
• Spreading the Culture of Lifelong Learning and Acquiring Knowledge in order to keep pace with the various fields of development.
