Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced the result of IRU (Iraqi Ranking For Universities) which the Quality Division in the Ministry has been working on. The specialists have conducted an overall assessment for eighty-three educational institutions, thirty-six public universities, forty-seven private universities and colleges as well as one thousand seven hundred and twenty-nine scientific departments. The evaluation has been based on several aspects such as the institutional environment and the academic program. It was separated into two categories based on its features and sizes:
• Criteria for assessing institutional performance Which includes quality and institutional accreditation 20%, global rankings 15%, research papers originality 20%, optimizing resources 10%, teaching staff 10%, students 15% and international acknowledgment 5%
• Criteria for evaluating the performance of scientific departments which include quality and program accreditation 35%, scientific research originality 30%, faculty staff 20% and students 15%.
The results, which can be found on (http://mohesr.gov.iq/ar/iru), have shown Baghdad University ranked first on the public universities and Al-Mustaqbal University College ranked first on the Private colleges and universities.
Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research carries on with the procedures and policies in developing the performance of its universities, improving its programs, and measuring its outputs as well as their relevance to global developments.
