<br />It is considerable to note that on Tuesday 7th November 2023, Sustainable Development Committee of Babylon Governorate convened its Third Meeting at Al-Mustaqbal University. The Meeting Agenda in all its items has been widely discussed and reviewed in the presence of Al-Mustaqbal University President, Babylon University President, Babylon Governor Assistant for Planning Affairs, Director of Babylon Environment, Head of Babylon Chamber of Commerce, Manager of Scientific Affairs Department at Al-Mustaqbal University, Head of Women Empowerment Department at the Governorate Office, and Director of Civil Society Organizations Department, in addition to a number of Representatives of Universities and Departments, as being members of the Committee.<br />It is worth noting that the Meeting has been chaired by Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University who has warmly welcomed all attendees, and then shifting to emphasize the fact that Al-Mustaqbal University has always been highly concerned about achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals through the implementation of divergent activities, such as conduct of Studies, Research, formulation of Specialized Committees, Volunteer Work, as well as organizing Meetings, Courses and Workshops related to Achievement of SDGs. There is no doubt that all these activities do constitute an Ambitious Route "Towards a Sustainable University". <br />After that, Engineer Mr. Khalid Kadhim Al-Salihi, Head of Social Development Division at Al-Mustaqbal University and Team Rapporteur, has given a Comprehensive Presentation, in which he has reviewed the previous Meeting Issues, in addition to the Ministry of Environment report that has been focusing on the maintenance of a Safe & Pollution-Free Environment. On her part, Engineer Ms. Ban Thahir Raouf, representing Babylon Planning Directorate and the Committee Secretariat, has submitted a report in which she has clarified the progress achieved in the field of Sustainable Development Goals. We should note however that the Meeting has witnessed Scientific Debates & Discussions, rich in ideas and opinions that no doubt would help confront environmental challenges, and thus accomplishing Economic and Social Development Goals, being in accordance with the Objective of the Government Program that mainly aim to improve the quality of Citizens Life.<br />The Meeting has resulted in a set of recommendations, the most important of which is the launch of Babylon Portal for Sustainable Development via Babylon University Website, whereas Al-Mustaqbal University has been given the responsibility of setting criteria for “Al-Mustaqbal Award” to Stories of Success on the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals within the Governorate of Babylon. Besides, a committee has been formed to prepare a Feasibility Study regarding establishment of Sustainable Development Department within the Organizational Structure of Babylon Governorate. It has also been recommended to activate the Initiative of the Central Bank, which focuses on converting Electricity Generation Systems towards Renewable Energy Sources.<br />Finally, we would like to note that the Recommendations have confirmed the necessity of providing Babylon Planning Directorate with the Projects already accomplished and the SDGs Indicators so as to be included in the Annual Report.
